Writing your first course
What to put in it, and what to leave out.
Pick one thing somebody has to be able to do
Not "policing". One thing: run a traffic stop from the call to the citation. A course with a verb in its name is a course somebody can finish. A course called "Basics" is a folder.
Write the modules backwards from that
List what a person needs before they can do the thing, in order. Each of those is a module. If a module does not move somebody closer to the verb in the title, it belongs in another course.
Screenshots of your own board, not ours
Members learn the interface they will actually open, with your departments, your penal codes and your call types in it. Generic screenshots teach the concept and leave the specifics for their first shift, which is the wrong place to learn them.
Put the question inside the video
A question attached to a point in the video interrupts it. Somebody who opens the tab and walks away does not finish. Two questions in a ten-minute lesson is enough to make watching it the easier path.
Set a pass mark you would defend
If 50% passes, the exam is decoration. Pick the mark at which you would put somebody on a live shift, and let the exam grade on submission so nobody is waiting on an instructor.
