Why a Discord channel is not a training record
It works until the person who remembers leaves.
It genuinely works at first
Twenty members, one trainer, everyone was there for the same conversation. Pinned messages are a perfectly good training system for a community that size, and saying otherwise is how software gets sold to people who did not need it.
It breaks on the second trainer
The moment two people run training, the material forks. Two versions of the same rule get taught for months and neither trainer knows. There is no artefact to disagree about, only two memories.
You cannot answer "did they do it"
A channel records that a message was posted, not that anybody read it. When somebody makes a mistake you have no way to tell whether they were taught wrong or never taught, and those need opposite responses.
And it does not leave the server
Training in a Discord is worth nothing to the member the day they leave, which means it is worth nothing to the next community that gets them. A verifiable certificate is the part a channel structurally cannot do.
What to keep
Keep the channel for questions - that is what it is good at, and a forum nobody reads is worse than a busy channel. Move the curriculum to something that records completion, so the trainer is answering the question in front of them rather than repeating a lesson for the ninth time.
