How to Configure Departments in CDE CAD

Guide to configuring departments in CDE CAD. Police, EMS, fire, and custom departments with ranks and permissions.

Department Types in CDE CAD

CDE CAD supports multiple department types including law enforcement, EMS, fire, civilian, and custom departments. Each department type comes with preconfigured features relevant to that service branch. Law enforcement departments get MDT access with person and vehicle lookups, while EMS departments get patient care report tools.

Creating Your First Department

Navigate to Community Admin and select the Departments section. Click Create Department and enter the department name, short code, and type. Choose an appropriate color theme that will identify the department throughout the system. Set the department as active and configure whether it appears on your community showcase page.

Setting Up Ranks and Hierarchy

Each department needs a rank structure. CDE CAD allows you to create unlimited ranks with customizable names, abbreviations, and permission levels. Start with the highest rank and work down. Common structures include Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant, Corporal, and Officer for law enforcement departments.

Configuring Department Permissions

Permissions in CDE CAD are granular and department-specific. Set which ranks can write reports, approve warrants, manage BOLOs, access the live map, view sensitive records, and perform administrative functions. The permissions system ensures that members only access features appropriate to their role.

Adding Members to Departments

Once your department is configured, you can add members from the community roster. Assign each member a rank within the department. Members can belong to multiple departments if your community supports cross-trained personnel. Department leaders can manage their own roster through the supervisor dashboard.
