Person Description Abbreviations
M/F - Male/Female
Gender of the subject. Used in all person descriptions and dispatch broadcasts.
W/B/H/A - White/Black/Hispanic/Asian
Race or ethnicity descriptors used in suspect descriptions for identification purposes.
BLK/BRN/BLN/RED/GRY - Hair Color
Standard abbreviations for hair color: Black, Brown, Blonde, Red, Grey. Used in physical descriptions.
BLU/BRN/GRN/HAZ - Eye Color
Standard abbreviations for eye color: Blue, Brown, Green, Hazel. Included in detailed person descriptions.
GOA - Gone On Arrival
Subject or situation is no longer present when officers arrive at the scene. Common in delayed response calls.
UTL - Unable to Locate
Officers were unable to find the subject, vehicle, or address described in the dispatch call.
Location and Direction Abbreviations
NB/SB/EB/WB - Directional
Northbound, Southbound, Eastbound, Westbound. Used for vehicle direction of travel and street orientations.
IFO - In Front Of
Subject or vehicle is positioned in front of a specific location or building.
N/S/E/W OF - Cardinal Direction
North of, South of, East of, West of. Used to describe relative positions to landmarks or intersections.
APT - Apartment
Abbreviation for apartment number in address descriptions.
X / AT - Intersection
Indicates a cross street or intersection. Example: Main St X 5th Ave or Main St AT 5th Ave.
LOC - Location
General abbreviation for location. Used when requesting or providing position information.
Action and Status Abbreviations
ATL - Attempt to Locate
Instruction for officers to search for a specific person, vehicle, or address.
CFS - Call for Service
Any dispatch assignment generated from a 911 call or officer request.
DUI - Driving Under the Influence
Suspect is operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
FTA - Failure to Appear
Subject failed to appear in court as required. May result in a bench warrant.
OIS - Officer Involved Shooting
An incident where an officer discharged their firearm. Triggers mandatory investigation and notification protocols.
RO - Registered Owner
The person listed as the registered owner of a vehicle in DMV records.
RP - Reporting Party
The person who called 911 or reported the incident to police.
TC - Traffic Collision
A vehicle accident. May be specified as TC-I (with injuries) or TC-PDO (property damage only).
Vehicle and Equipment Abbreviations
LP/TAG - License Plate
Abbreviation for license plate number. Used in vehicle descriptions and lookups.
VIN - Vehicle Identification Number

MDT - Mobile Data Terminal

BOLO - Be On the Lookout
An alert broadcast to all officers about a wanted person, vehicle, or suspicious activity.
ETA - Estimated Time of Arrival
The expected time an officer or unit will arrive at a location.
SOP - Standard Operating Procedure
Department-specific written policies and procedures that govern officer conduct and operations.
EOW - End of Watch
The end of an officer shift or tour of duty. Also used in memorial context for fallen officers.
